The Otaniemi area is currently a centre of great attention. It is part of the developing 3T area (Tapiola, Keilaniemi, Otaniemi). There are also substantial projects being planned and constructed in Otaniemi and the surrounding area, such as the new metro line and the Otaniemi metro station and Korkeakouluaukio square as well as the covering of Ring Road 1 (Kehä 1) between Otaniemi and Tapiola. In addition, a number new office premises for corporate use are being built in Keilaniemi. The first new-build project of Aalto University Properties Ltd has also been launched in Otaniemi for research use by the university and a private corporation.
The most significant development projects for Aalto University Properties Ltd are the Otaniemi metro station and its surroundings, the Kivimies block in cooperation with Senate Properties and the parking arrangements in the Otaniemi area. One of the focal development projects is the traffic arrangements in the T3 area, where special emphasis will be put on bicycle and pedestrian traffic. An international open architecture competition for the Korkeakouluaukio square and the surrounding buildings will be launched after the decisions concerning the development of the campuses have been made.
These decisions will play a significant role in the future development of the Otaniemi area and the operations of Aalto University Properties. The company is preparing for the new challenges posed by the decisions on the campuses, different location options and the building of a top university of the future.
